The post-lunch news-reading session today, made me find my way into this:
U.S. gas prices fuel "drive offs" by angry drivers
Now, by the stats given, 1 Gallon costs $3.
My landline Cisco phone (a bit of flaunting here pls, coz there is very little I can flaunt about anyways), says 1 Gallon = 3.7 litres.
According to CNBC exchange rates, 1 Dollar = Rs 43.89 today.
Converting everything onto a common base of litres and rupees, US people pay,
Rs 131.67 for 3.7 litres of their fuel.
We at Hyderabad pay Rs 185.407 for 3.7 litres of our fuel. Thats a difference of Rs 53.737. Which is more than a dollar today.
I look no more into per capita/GDP/income and all such jargons associated, all converted to a common base. I do not have exact statistics, but the percent share of my salary that goes to fuel, I am pretty much sure, is far more than the percent share of their salaries that go to fuel.
And worse news is, even if I intend to do a 'drive-off', I will at the most be successful in reaching the edge of the gas station, because to join the traffic unscathed after that, it would take a minimum of 15 minutes, by which time I would be beaten black and blue and my vehicle siezed and sold. My mobile and wallet would go as accessories.
On all angles, I feel victimized. God save me and my bike. And by the way, I saved a day's fuel yesterday by bunking office. Ashes was a treat to watch and caught up on the highlights of the Roger-Andre final of the US Open. Though statistics told me the championship would be fed to Fed, I longed for an Agassi victory. I was completely overwhelmed nevertheless with what I saw. Imagining what would become of me at 35, my face turns white. But I took solace in also imagining what would have become of Agassi at 35, if he was a software engineer :)
At last, some work this week. After all these days of goofing around, its high time I get productive too. Adios.
