Here's to all Hyderabadis!

This is an extract from a mail from one of my colleagues, who was cool enough to take the initiative:

" Hi everyone,

I am sure we must have all faced overcharging by autorickshaw drivers with tampered meters. I just called up the metrology department to complain against one such rickshaw and was given this information:

It is difficult for the department to locate the rickshaw among 70,000 rickshaws in the city. So, reporting a tampered meter after you get home is not the most effective solution. The recommended course of action is to stop the rickshaw at any traffic cop, and report the tampering to him. The policeman will seize the rickshaw papers and send them to the metrology department for a check. He will be fined as per their rules.

Friends, please let us all take a stand in this issue, as it is not going to go away unless the rickshaw drivers get the message that people are aware of the rules and are willing to get them enforced.

Numbers for the metrology department: 27612706, 27613667 and 27508367."

And I guess this applies to autorickshaws refusing to bill by meter, which happens much to often everywhere these days.

Today morning, at 7.30 am, people had the guts to ask for 80 bucks for a distance that costs 31.50 by meter!

From now on atleast, I think there might be just that little justice. Provided the police fellow is straight forward.
